Flat Glass

We are more than just Auto Glass! We keep some stock of float, laminate
and fireplace glass as well as some plastics in stock. Unsure of what
you need?

Float Glass is what is commonly used for most picture frames, single
pane aluminum sliding windows, wood frame windows and shelving. Most
picture frame and aluminum windows use a 2 or 3mm thick float glass.
Wood frame windows can vary depending on the frame and how the glass
needs to be installed. For glass being used as shelving, or sitting on
top of an existing table or counter top- we always recommend 6mm for
safety purposes. We can do some custom corners, and polished edges as
well. Give us a call with your dimensions and thickness of the glass you
need for your next project- and we can give you a quote and
availability.

Safety Glass

There are numerous types of glass referred to as safety
glass. These are the ones we deal with:

Tempered Glass is cut to size then heat treated in a specialty kiln to strengthen it. This glass when broken will shatter in to a “webbed” pattern or small shards on impact. This is a safety feature so it will not break into larger shards which can help to prevent injury. All tempered glass is custom ordered. A 50 % deposit is required to place
order.

Laminated Glass consists of a layer of glass, plastic and glass.
This glass is like your windshield and as such, on receiving an impact, this glass will chip or crack but will normally stay intact. This type of glass is commonly used in heavy duty equipment and some commercial
doors. For heavy duty equipment, if there are no holes for wipers or handles and no curvature outwards of the glass, we can cut in shop and install in shop or on site. We have a large pattern database of equipment glass to handle many makes and models.

Georgian Wire Glass (GPW) This glass has a wire mesh embedded in it,

which makes it a very useful security feature
for many commercial doors
and windows. This glass normally cracks if broken, but will not shatter and is normally thought to be more fire resistant than other glass. We can cut to size for your needs.

Fireplace Glass

This is a specialty ceramic glass designed for wood stove doors. This type of glass can with stand temperatures of between 750- 1000c. Unfortunately- it can’t withstand a log that is too big for the wood stove- so when that happens, bring in your wood stove door to have us replace it in our shop for you.
